Here are some essential questions to ask before buying a louvred roof. I have been working in the louvred roof market for nearly 15 years, and never have there been so many cheap imported products on the market. But are they cheap? Well, not really! Many of these companies are misleading clients by not telling them they need a building permit, which makes them look cheap. Also, the quality and warranty of the products are often inferior. They also offer to install the job even though they are not registered builders, which, if the project is above $10,000, requires you to be a registered builder.
If you use a reputable company like
Louvretec (Aluminium blade) SEE HERE
Louvre Roofs Australia (Aluminium blade) SEE HERE (who I freelance for)
Vergola (Colorbond blade) SEE HERE
These are all registered builders, and they will all normally include a building permit, homeowners warranty insurance, 126 certification, and full engineering. Sometimes, to obtain a building permit, town planning, dispensation, or fire modification, etc., could be required.
If you choose to use a cheap product, be very careful. Most only offer a 5-year warranty on the powder coat and a 1-year warranty on the motor. If you imagine the company going bust, how would you get a replacement from overseas? It would be a nightmare.
If I were buying a louvred roof, I would ask some very important questions:
Are you a registered builder?
Are you including a building permit?
What are the deposits? For a fully installed project, the initial deposit should be no more than 5% if above $20,000 and no more than 10% if under $20,000.
What are your warranties? And what happens if you go bust?
Where is the product from?
How long have you been in business?
I would also search the internet for reviews on the companies you are getting a quotation from. I have noticed that some of the good reviews on certain companies out there all seem to be done over a very short period and seem fake, if I’m honest, so be careful.
